Who is Jesus?

We believe that God is the Creator of the universe and all that it contains.

We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead, God the Father, God the son, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit.

When God originally created the world, everything was perfect. However, the first humans made a significant mistake, resulting in their separation from God. Life was no longer perfect, as sin had entered the world, causing humankind to be separated from God.

During Christmas, we commemorate the arrival of Jesus in the world as a baby. He is both human and divine. In the Bible, He is referred to as “Emmanuel,” meaning God with us. This event marked the initial phase of God's plan to restore a better relationship with His children.

Jesus came to Earth to live among people, His creation, and to experience life alongside them. His primary purpose was to sacrifice Himself on the cross to atone for the wrongdoings of humanity. This act of pure love was intended to reconcile us to God.

When we acknowledge our mistakes and seek forgiveness from God, this is known as "salvation." Through Jesus, we can reconnect with God and experience His unconditional and unending love.

After Jesus died on the cross, He was resurrected, triumphing over death. Because of this, we can have hope for life beyond our earthly existence.

Jesus and The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement. It grew out of a passion to see people come into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Motivated by the love of Jesus, our mission is about caring for people, creating faith pathways, building healthy communities and working for justice.

Read The Salvation Army’s beliefs

The Salvation Army has 11 faith-based statements called doctrines that summarize our religious beliefs.

The Salvation Army’s message is based on the Bible and our doctrines place us in harmony with other mainstream denominations of Protestant Christianity.

The Salvation Army Articles of Faith

  1. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.
  2. We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.
  3. We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.
  4. We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that he is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.
  5. We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience, they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall, all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.
  6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by his suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.
  7. We believe that repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation.
  8. We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself.
  9. We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.
  10. We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  11. We believe in the immortality of the soul, the resurrection of the body, in the general judgment at the end of the world, in the eternal happiness of the righteous, and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

The Salvation Army: A Brief History

It started in the 1860's when Methodist minister, William Booth, began reaching out to the masses living in poverty in London.

He preached that there was a God who could transform their lives and show them a new way. He fed them, prayed with them and thousands of people's lives were changed.

Booth tried to introduce his converts to local Methodist churches, but the wider church at the time had lost much of its vision for what was then considered the "underclasses", and would not accept them.

In less than 20 years, while it had not been his initial goal, William Booth established a new denomination of the Christian church—The Salvation Army. Today, the Army upholds the cross of Christ and serve communities worldwide.

They are dedicated to sharing the love of God by caring for people, creating faith pathways, building healthy communities and working for justice.

Today, The Salvation Army remains a vibrant Christian movement, dedicated to preaching the gospel and meeting human needs without discrimination. With a presence in over 130 countries, it continues to offer spiritual guidance, social services, and emergency relief, staying true to its mission of transforming lives through the love of Jesus. We are also leveraging technology to reach more people and foster a global community of faith and service.

What does it mean to be a Christian?

The term "Christ" is commonly appended to the name of Jesus, forming "Jesus Christ." In Greek, "Christ" translates to "anointed one," signifying the acknowledgment of Jesus as both human and divine.

Anyone who decides to establish a relationship with God through Jesus can identify as a "Christian."

"This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived.
He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step."

1 Peter 2:21 MSG

What Can Jesus Mean for My Life?

During His time on Earth, Jesus demonstrated compassion toward the downtrodden and outcasts. He healed the sick, honored the role of women, and welcomed even criminals to dine with Him.

Jesus showed concern for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all people.

We believe that Jesus cares about you and desires to transform your heart. He wants to heal your pain and replace it with abundant life. God seeks a relationship with you.
